“FROM AN INTERVIEW GIVEN TO ARMENIAN TELEVISION IN 1972.”

Henry Elibekyan

The painting has its own internal regularities and system; it consists of distinctive channels through which the ‘subconscious feeling’ flows.

Feelings are transformed into various formations, where constant ‘metamorphoses’ take place.

‘Colorful phenomena,’ competing with one another, constantly dissolve and give rise to new chromatic spaces.

The ‘colorful spectacle’—the necessity of the painting—creates emotional tension. Color solutions evoke various experiences, emotions, and associations. “We arrive at this through a surge of outpouring, where color—its quality and ‘pulsation’—is formed subconsciously, in a state of ‘self-forgetfulness,’ creating a painterly density.

The driving forces of the painting are internal processes—movement and form-generation—which constitute the expression of the inner ‘self.’

If your inner feelings dictate certain impulses, they should not be regulated, since regulation only leads to passivity and the loss of individuality.
